Don’t Starve is a top-down survival game developed by the Canadian indie game developer Klei Entertainment. The game originally launched on April 23, 2013, for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms.
Gameplay
Don’t Starve is a game that combines action and exploration with elements of survival and roguelike gameplay. It has a randomly generated open world. Players use their mouse to fight, or can use the “force attack” (ctrl+f) command. Other activities are managed with the keyboard or by using the inbuilt gamepad support, mirroring console-like gameplay. The objective is to survive for as long as possible, with a counter displaying the number of days that have passed, as well as the current season.
The game is based on a day/night cycle that affects the game play. When the sun is up, the player spends the majority of the time exploring the environment: finding food, collecting firewood, and other supplies, learning how to combine items to craft new ones, and avoiding adversaries. As soon as darkness falls, dangerous foes appear and an invisible threat, known as Charlie, will attack the gamer if they don’t have a light source or night vision.
Story
Late one night, deep within the woods in New England, Wilson was struggling in his experiment when his radio talked to him. It offered to give him some obscure information about the task he was working on. He accepted the offer, and soon equations and diagrams flooded his mind. Utilizing white rats, a typewriter, and his own blood, Wilson constructed a colossal machine. His radio congratulated him and instructed him to switch it on. Wilson was slightly hesitant but obeyed the command. The apparatus began to shake, and a couple of spectral arms yanked him into an alternate dimension while an image of Maxwell guffawed.
