Story

When the Knight arrives in Dirtmouth, a peaceful town near the ruins of Hallownest above the remains of the kingdom, they find a town that is quiet and peaceful at the outset of the game. Hallownest, which was once a thriving kingdom, becomes overrun by “The Infection”, a mysterious disease that turned its citizens into zombies and undead. A previous ruler of Hallownest, The Pale King, had attempted to seal away the Infection previously in the Temple of the Black Egg. Despite the temple’s magical barriers, the disease managed to escape and the kingdom fell into ruin. The Knight’s mission is to discover and kill three bugs named the Dreamers, who seal the temple door with their dreams. Once the barriers have been removed, the Knight may confront the source of the disease. In this quest, Hornet, a warrior who tests the Knight’s combat abilities in several battles, is a significant adversary.
