Little Nightmares is a horror adventure game that requires players to solve puzzles and navigate platforms. Developed by Tarsier Studios, the game was initially released on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in April 2017. A year later, the game was released for the Nintendo Switch in May 2018.

Gameplay

Little Nightmares is set in a world that is 2.5D. The player moves through the world using different platformer elements and may encounter puzzles that need to be solved to progress. The player is usually powerless and cannot fight back against enemies, and must instead use stealth and the environment to avoid them. In some instances, the player is given tools to help them fight back and even the odds slightly.

Story

Little Nightmares takes place in a strange world and follows the adventures of a girl named Six who is always hungry. She must find a way to escape the Maw, a giant metal ship that is home to terrifying creatures seeking their next meal.

Reception

Little Nightmares received generally positive reviews from critics and was nominated for many awards. It was praised for its game design, atmosphere and its disturbing imagery.

The game made an impressive debut in the UK, ranking #4 on the all-format sales chart within its first week. In Japan, The Complete Edition sold 12,817 copies in its first week, securing the #15 spot on the all-format sales chart. The game’s popularity continued to soar, with over one million copies sold across all platforms by August 2018. In May 2020, Bandai Namco reported that the number of units sold had exceeded 2 million.
