Gameplay

Players in Minecraft can explore a blocky, procedurally generated, three-dimensional world with virtually infinite terrain and build structures, earthworks, and machines. Players can also craft tools and items, and build things in the world, using raw materials. Depending on their chosen game mode, players may fight hostile mobs or collaborate with or compete against other players. There are two game modesβ€”a survival mode (in which players must gather resources to survive and keep health) and a creative mode (in where players have unlimited resources and access to flight)β€”as well as a wide range of user-made modifications, servers, skins, texture packs, and custom maps that add new game mechanics and possibilities.

Story

Players can create their own stories and worlds in Minecraft, but the game does not have a set plot for players to unravel.

How long is Minecraft?

When it comes to the main goals, Minecraft typically takes about 87 hours to complete. However, if you’re a dedicated gamer who wants to experience every aspect of the game, it may take you around 334 hours to achieve 100% completion.

Reception

Creative freedom and ease of emergent gameplay are among the reasons why critics praised Minecraft. The game’s complex crafting system is said to be an important part of its open-ended gameplay. The game’s blocky visuals were appreciated by most publications. Reviewers also appreciated the game’s adventure elements, particularly the game’s ability to create a good balance between exploring and building. It was generally noted that adventuring with friends is more enjoyable.

In early 2011, just seven months after entering the beta phase, Minecraft sold over one million copies, making it the fastest selling game ever. The game was never commercially advertised, and its popularity was due to word of mouth and various unpaid references in popular media such as the Penny Arcade webcomic. By November 2011, prior to the game’s full release, the beta version of Minecraft had registered 16 million users and had been purchased 4 million times.
