OUTLAST WIKI
Outlast is a survival horror game developed by Red Barrels and released in 2013. The main character in the game is Miles Upshur, who works as an independent journalist specializing in investigations.
Gameplay
Outlast is a video game where the player takes on the role of a journalist named Miles Upshur who is investigating a rundown psychiatric hospital in Leadville, Colorado. The hospital is infested with violent patients and the game is played from a first-person perspective. The player has various movement options such as walking, running, crouching, jumping, climbing ladders, and vaulting over objects. The game does not have a visible health bar or allow the player to attack enemies. Instead, the player must rely on stealth tactics such as hiding in lockers, sneaking past enemies, staying in the shadows, or hiding behind objects to survive. In case the player dies, they will be reset to the most recent checkpoint.
Story
Miles Upshur, an investigative journalist who works independently, gets an email from an anonymous source claiming that Mount Massive Asylum, a psychiatric hospital owned by the Murkoff Corporation, is using cruel methods for experimentation. Upon his arrival, he finds the place in disarray and the staff’s corpses mutilated. A wounded officer from Murkoff’s private military unit tells Miles that the institution’s insane patients, known as “variants”, have escaped and are murdering Murkoff’s workers. The officer urges Miles to flee and discloses that the security controls can unlock the main doors.
