Gameplay

Slay the Spire is a game that combines the elements of roguelike progression and deck-building card games. To begin with, the player chooses one of the four preset characters, each with a unique ability, starting health, gold, and a set of basic cards that cater to that character’s color code. The objective is to navigate through multiple levels of a spire, each consisting of various encounters, culminating in a boss fight. These encounters include monsters of varying strengths, elite enemies that offer additional rewards, campfires for healing or upgrading cards, shopkeepers to purchase cards, relics, and potions, chests with random loot, and chance-based encounters.

How long is Slay the Spire?

Reception

Mega Crit reported that the initial release of the game via early access in November 2017 was sluggish, with only 2000 copies being sold during the first few weeks. Despite providing redemption keys to popular streamers and influencers, no significant sales were observed until a Chinese streamer featured the game on their channel with over a million views. Consequently, Mega Crit witnessed a massive surge in sales. As of the week ending January 21, 2018, Slay the Spire ranked second among the highest-selling games on Steam.
