Gameplay

Subnautica is a game that falls under the survival action-adventure genre. It is set in an expansive open world and the player experiences it from a first-person point of view. The protagonist, Ryley Robinson, is the only survivor of the Aurora spaceship and finds himself stranded on a planet named 4546B, which is located in the middle of an ocean.

The primary goal in this game is to discover the depths of the ocean and navigate through its hazards, all while accomplishing various objectives to move the story forward. During gameplay, individuals have the opportunity to gather materials, create equipment, establish settlements, vehicles, and engage with the diverse marine life present on the planet.

The player in the game faces many risks, some of which are very severe. These risks include various dangerous creatures such as the Crabsquids, Stalkers, Crashfish, and Leviathan-class lifeforms like the Reaper, Sea Dragon, Ghost and Peeper Leviathans. It is important to remain cautious and vigilant in order to survive in this challenging environment.

Most of the gameplay takes place beneath the surface of the water, and there are two uncharted islands to discover. The visibility is affected by a day-and-night simulation. When starting a new game, players have the choice of four levels of difficulty. No details are left out in this paraphrased text.

Story

Subnautica is set in the future where space travel is common. The Alterra Corporation has built a spacecraft named Aurora that has been sent on its maiden voyage to a faraway system to develop high-speed space travel infrastructure. Unbeknown to the crew, the ship was also on a mission to search for the crew of a ship called Degasi that had crashed on planet 4546B a decade ago. As Aurora slingshots around 4546B, it is attacked by an unknown energy pulse which causes it to crash on the planet. Some crew members manage to escape in escape pods, but only the player character, Ryley Robinson, survives.

How long is Subnautica?

When it comes to the primary goals, Subnautica typically takes about 30 hours to complete. However, if you’re the type of gamer who likes to explore every aspect of the game, you can expect to spend around 54 hours to achieve 100% completion.

Reception

Upon its release, Subnautica garnered favorable feedback across all gaming systems, deemed by reviewers as an aquatic version of the popular game Minecraft.

As of January 2020, sales of over 5.23 million copies had been achieved on all platforms, excluding copies distributed for free during promotional events.
