World of Goo is a video game that involves solving puzzles. It was created and distributed by 2D Boy, an independent game developer. The game was initially released on Microsoft Windows and Wii platforms on October 13, 2008. Since then, it has been made available on other platforms such as Nintendo Switch, macOS, Linux, and several mobile devices.
Gameplay
The game centers on the concept of constructing massive structures out of goo balls. It is sectioned into five chapters, and each chapter entails various levels. Every level has its distinct graphics and music, which creates a unique ambiance. Additionally, there is a special meta-game known as World of Goo Corporation, where the goal is to build the tallest tower using goo balls gathered during gameplay. Players worldwide can participate in this competition, as the height of the tower and the number of goo balls used are continuously recorded and uploaded to the 2D Boy server.
Story
At first, pipes emerge all over the land, stirring up many dormant Goo Balls who had been undisturbed until now. Fueled by childish curiosity and innocence, they make their way towards the pipes. Once they reach the pipe entrance, the Goo Balls are sucked into the “World of Goo Corporation” main building via the pipe system, where they are processed into various products including an energy drink. The remaining Goo Balls assemble outside the Corporation headquarters to construct a massive tower. Towards the end of the first chapter, a few Goo Balls escape from a Corporation building by attaching themselves to flying eyeballs. The chapter concludes with the Goo Balls gazing upon new, distant lands.
